The White Forsythia is Flowering

When I posted about the buds on my Abeliophyllum Distichum (otherwise know as White Forsythia) several people asked me to post pictures when they opened so here they are:

It only opened properly this week and although it's still quite a scrawny looking shrub I'm so pleased that after 4 years it has actually got a decent number of flowers on it!

As well as looking delicate and beautiful they also have a very pleasant scent.  The very slight pink tinge isn't really visible except through the camera!

It's not an easy plant to locate, I got mine from the Place For Plants, but if you can track one down I would recommend it as a slow growing lovely early spring shrub.  I need to prune mine when it's finished flowering to try and persuade it not to be quite so scrawny.

I'll leave you with Mr/Mrs Robin who was watching me take photos of the White Forsythia!

  2. You could take cuttings? Or even bend a branch down to get it to root before cutting it bac?
    Just a thought ;-)

  3. That is beautiful. It is supposed to be difficult to grow, so congrats on this. Cuttings would be a great idea. You can always send one my way :-)

  5. It's lovely, I didn't know you could get white Forsythia, cuttings would be a good idea. I remember years ago my Dad cut back the forsythia and used the thickest off cuts as sticks and they all started sending out green shoots, we ended up with forsythia's sprouting up everywhere in the garden.

  7. Definietly worth trying to propagate more plants. For the rest of us, a plant well worth sourcing.

  12. I didn't know there was such a plant, so am just thrilled to see the white forsythia photos. Am planning on forcing some of the yellow type this week. As some commenters already noted, you might try sticking your trimmings in the ground, as they would most likely root.

The dragon was wonderful..what an adventure.
