And Breathe....

I'm enjoying having a little more time to sit in the garden this week, the weather is still glorious and fortunately a little less humid today, and it's nice to be able to sit in peace (before the builders start next door) and look at the flowers.

There's quite a lot of purple and pinks: self sown viola, Eryngium, Hibiscus, Verbena Bonariensis

And quite a lot of orange: Rose Fighting Temeraire, Rose Lady Emma Hamilton, self sown viola, Dahlia Walzing Mathilda, Hemerocallis (name forgotten!).

There's a self sown Salvia growing out of the patio,

and Echniops, Shasta Daisies, self sown Hollyhocks and Echinacea White Swan, all growing happily together.

There's veg growing well too, except I might not have properly thought the bean support through when I made it out of very long hazel sticks as I can't actually reach the top and will soon need the step ladder to pick the beans!

  1. I'm very envious of that agapanthus! I think I'm adjusting to the heat and actually enjoying it now, it's lovely yo dirt outside in the evening with the cats... and bats!

  2. I don't particularly like the garden in July - everything is suffering in the hear, flowering and going over so quickly - and the watering, oh the watering - I daren't miss an evening for fear of shrivelled up mess. Trying to keep everything going is a struggle - although saying that your garden is looking pretty good despite, or maybe, because of the heat. What's the secret I wonder.

  3. You're certainly surrounded by some beautiful flowers whilst you're sitting out in the garden. My runner beans are doing really well, the French beans less so after nearly all the plants were eaten by slugs when they were first planted out. I've just caught up with your last post, what beautiful fireplaces you have, definitely worth the work to get them back to their former glory.

  4. Now that dahlia is certainly most aptly named. A waltz comes to mind. Snap when it comes to picking beans Su. My wigwam of French beans is certainly much taller than me and I don't like heights!

  5. What a lovely garden you have. Shame that you will have to put up with builders, so noisy and messy.

For your runner beans next year, if you have the space, use the same poles but instead of them meeting at the top, make them meet lower down and cross each other, that way you can get at the beans more easily.
