A First for the First

On this first day of a new year I thought I'd show you something that I finished a couple of days ago and am quite proud of - my first ever piece of lacy knitting!  It's not really complicated lace like some very clever people can knit as I've tried that and kept ending up with the wrong number of stitches, so this was a simpler pattern which meant I only went wrong and had to unpick it twice!  It's called a "shawlette" - and the pattern was a free one from from Ravelry.

I had to learn about blocking, cue towels and pins on the bathroom carpet, which really helped to shape it properly.

It's a lovely variegated 4ply yarn and feels wonderfully soft - I shall definitely enjoy wearing it.

I hope you've all had wonderful Christmases and that 2012 brings happiness and fullfillment to you all - it'll soon be Spring!

How clever - I thought when I saw your thumbnail pic on my dashboard that it was a pair of lacy knickers!!! Sorry! It looks lovely and soft and cosy and far too nice to be hidden underneath your outerwear!

You've inspired me! I have the wool and pattern for a similar lacy shawl, I'm ashamed to say I bought it 3 years ago and it's still in the bag, I'll have to start it soon. Hope it turns out as lovely as yours. Happy New Year!

The pattern looks very complicated, you must be very proud of the finished product. I have just bought a book of patterns and some wool to knit a cowl scarf. Thanks for commenting on my blog.

What a fantastic shawl - I must admit I thought it was a pair of knickers at first!!! I am in awe as my attempts at lace knitting have all ended in knots so far! Happy new year and happy knitting x
