About my garden - part 1

The back garden was one of the main reasons that I bought this house just over 2 years ago.  It is only 5m wide but it is about 50m long.  The house and garden had been rented for several years but we could see that it had been lovingly cared for in the past.  In fact the previous owner had been an avid plants woman and although many of those plants had not survived being rented, the structure was still there.  The garden had a special, "twinkly" feeling, with a sense of mystery and excitement about what was round the next corner, or hiding under the ivy.  The ivy covered most of the flowerbeds, apart from where the Spanish bluebells grew!  I have slowly won the battle with the ivy, but still have some way to go with the bluebells!  Every year the garden reveals more secrets from its past - this spring some beautiful double flowered snowdrops appeared where paving slabs and an old dog run had been until last June.
I don't have any pictures of the garden when I moved in, but this is it after I'd been here for about 2 months.

Oh wow! I'd have bought that house if I'd seen it too. What a fabulous garden. Love it. By the way I meant to say "Welcome" to the world of blogging" yesterday when I commented. I hope you'll find it as enjoyable as I have.

Thanks for yours on mine - I got the smaller eggs many years ago in a shop in Guildford and the larger ones came in a bag from a cheap type shop in France! No I didn't make them!!

Thanks for your recent comments over at my place Sue. Welcome to the world of blogging. Look forward to getting to know you and your garden better. When you've beaten the bluebells do let me know - I think that I have done it each year but they always reappear :)

Love the garden too. I wish ours were a bit more enclosed, I love the idea of hiding parts of it and have succeeded to a degree... but it's half as broad as it's long, and to create secrey wind-ey paths we'd need lots of height and that would create lots of shade, and not good for the plants we grow really. I do have one secret shady path which winds around a huge shrub and then when you've walked past it, there is a part of the garden you didn't see before. Look forward to more photos perhaps?

Lovely garden, it looks so interesting and exciting! So very jealous, even if things have become overgrown...

It sounds like you're having a similar amount of fun as my parents did when they moved homes... Underneath the brambles, nettles and other weeds they found a shed, a greenhouse, a well, patio that they never knew existed!!! Amazing.

Lovely to read about your garden Sue. I think long narrow gardens have a hint of mystery about them and yours certainly looks very intriguing with its little winding path. Its so exciting when a garden begins to reveal itself - I hope you find many more little gems as the year unfolds.
